A Good Read

Posted on November 30th, 2009 @ 3:16 am

Dear diary,

It’s kinda late…long since I’ve got the freedom the to stay up late and still have enough sleep. Bliss!
Just finished reading a book titled A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers by Xiaolu Guo

tsc 060R

No,it’s not a dictionary. It’s a love story between a Chinese lady and a British guy in London.

Who Where When What How? Read the book.

Didn’t know it was award-winning until now after I finish reading the book and googled it.

I bought it because it’s unique – it’s written in broken English.
I’m amazed how the story touched me just by a set of broken, literally broken language.
Eg. “I fearing future” – one of the phrases from the first chapter.

It seems so real, so original, cos of all the…language incompetence.

Just by this, it’s worth the read, if you’re not too particular about good English.

Writing style can be learned, good ideas cannot.

Sometimes, it’s so hard to judge whether a book is worth buying or not, just by reading the brief on the back cover.
You only know after you start reading it.
I don’t usually go for mainstream/bestsellers (well,maybe sometimes).
I don’t know who’re the famous authors, I just know my favourite authors.

Christmas To-Do(s)

Posted on November 29th, 2009 @ 12:26 am

Dear diary,

Do you realized that…. Christmas is less than a month away?

Everytime when it’s Christmas, I’ll have this very joyful feeling that I can’t explain.

I don’t feel like this for CNY or Independence Day or any other festivals.

Not that I know the origins and all that…but it just somehow became a very significant occasion for myself.

Don’t know since when, I’ve formed this perception that Christmas is a happy occasion with beautiful decorations, nice music, gifts-exchange and…altogether it’s beautiful.

Things that I’ve done so far ….

1) Put up a Christmas Tree

picture 039R

2) Put together a Christmas header for my blog…just wanna inject some festive mood for anybody that comes here. :)

Okays, hope you enjoy Christmas as much as I do!

Then it’s evening time, we decided to hit the beach!!

a 351R

Because the weather was so good that day, everything’s so beautiful!

a 383R

Just like a scene from the movies! Love this picture , managed to capture the waves hitting on the shore!

a 360R

Can’t wait to jump into the sea!

a 359R

Was very excited! “Come on” , i said.

a 347R

This is him.

a 358R

For some reason, I love this picture very much! Like i’m walking towards the sun…the sky so blue, the shadow so well-defined.

a 446R

Near the beach, there’s this footwash, for you to wash off the sand on your feet.

a 441R

Nice…Avillion really take care of every single detail!

a 501R

Saw a lonely cloud…

a 373R

I really love being at the beach, it makes you feel very relaxed.

a 558R

Tumasek Chalets at dusk

If I own a DSLR I’ll really put it into good use. Santa, can you hear me?

After all the fun at the beach, we went back to the hotel, wash-up and went out for dinner.

Don’t really know where’s the gem of seafood in PD , heard that it’s quite far away.

Hence just randomly had our dinner in one of the restaurants near town.

Waited for an hour until food’s served, plus the food is not that nice also! :(

That night, our room went out of electricity. Even got this burning smell.

Was quite panic and called the room service right away. They suggested us to change rooms. So changed to a room that’s not as nice as this. Cos it’s built on the beach, not on the water. How can you call it water chalet while is not on the water?

The story will be continued in my next post!

My Pasta Diaries

Posted on November 26th, 2009 @ 3:12 am

Dear diary,

One fine day, I felt like eating pasta, hence I tried cooking it.

This is what it looks like…

picture 063R

I shall call it The Carol Mushroom, Herbs & Garlic Pasta.

I don’t really like it, but mom & tim said it was good.

Maybe this is not my favourite flavour then, should experiment another style the next time.

Time to pick up some oregamo, basil & parsley from Cold Storage!

Ohw and I realized that we have an oven at home. Should put it into good use!

To entertain you, here’s a silly picture of myself…

picture 003R

Sorry if you’re not entertained.

Sometimes I think funky shades like this can make you look trendy, in a way.

Sadly, for my case, it’s too big and makes me look like a clown.

Okays, gonna go sleep now, Avilion Ep 3 on its way! soon, soon!

Ep2: The Garden Walk

Posted on November 24th, 2009 @ 5:17 pm

-Continued from here -

After inspecting the room, decided to go out for a walk, since the weather is so good.

a 175R_R2

Getting ready… is a bliss.

Don’t know what to wear, simply put on my swimsuit and a cardigan and off we go!

Avillion is very …. …. uhm, resort. Landscape, pathways, look-out deck… it’s like being in a very big garden by the sea.

a 325R

Something like this…

a 331R

Or this….

a 187 copy

The weather is perfectly good, never seen the sky so blue in M’sia. Love how the glare reflected onto the sea. Very serene view!

a 196R

It’s a very nice concept that they built hidden look-out points, where you can peacefully lie down on the adjustable chairs and enjoy the sea-breeze in a not very open space.

a 193R

They’ve names for each too, this one is called Acheh Lookout.

a 253R

Then by the poolside, it’s very tropical…got banana and coconut trees, just like a scene from…Madagascar.

As we walk on, this very nice white glass building in the middle of the sea caught my sight!

It’s Avi Spa,the architecture!

a 207R

Amateur photography, I like to experiment depth of field and colour contrasts.

a 213R

Reflections on the wooden deck, together  with the sun-glare and blue sky, breath-taking!

a 341R

Our very well-defined shadows…

a 323R

Merry!

*vain mode on*

a 227R_R

The scenery is very beautiful, can’t help but to snap away!

Until I don’t how to caption the pictures, words can’t describe.

Ep1: The Avillion Weekend

Posted on November 24th, 2009 @ 3:19 pm

Dear diary,

2 months ago, I went to Avillion, PD. It was a fantastic 3 days 2 nights!

If you don’t know yet, Avillion is actually a beach resort in Port Dickson, with water chalets on the sea.

Port Dickson is not the best beach around definitely, but it’s the nearest getaway from KL.

Have heard of it a lot and always wanted to go there. Never thought it would happen until you made it happened!

Cos it was 2 months ago, i feel that my memories of it not as vivid as the first few days after the trip. I remember the first few days after the trip, I yearned to go back to the beach and kept having dreams of the sea. Now still of course, the yearning to go back part.

It was a long weekend, Merdeka weekend. Usually for peak season like this, I don’t get anything done cos I’m spontaneous and don’t really plan ahead. Glad that you did.

We reached around 3pm, checked-in, being welcomed by a drink.

a 119R

Typical!

The choices of room are: Water Chalet, Premium Water Chalet, Garden Chalet, Beach Studio. We picked…

a 338_R

…water chalet, room 928.

The view is terrific! Call me ulu or what, I just like it the way a chalet is built on the sea and you get to hear the natural sound of  the sea all the time!

Once stepped into the room, felt like all burden instantly off my shoulders.

I have my sights on the blue sky, horizon and a hut; the sound of waves lingering at my ears; this is like paradise, only if the sea water is cleaner!

a 164 copy

The view from the balcony.

The weather is perfectly good, the sky is blue. Very high expectation set on the first day. The rest of days better be good!

Let me show you around the room first….

a 743 copy

Overview – very nice bed! Just like those in The Sims 3

a 773R

Hello!

a 160R

Open-air shower! Can gaze at the stars and look into the sea while bathing.

a 168R

A window in the room opened to the shower-place.

New Hair-Cut

Posted on November 21st, 2009 @ 12:55 pm

Dear diary,

One of the stuff in my to-do-list is to get a hair cut.

I used to go to Sense Studio, but not very satisfied with the last hair cut.

Hence, decided to try a new place - The Belfry in Tangs, Pavilion. The owner is a Brit guy + his partner.

The saloon’s interior is kinda nice, not the typical hair saloon. This one has got style and colours.

BefreyMirrors

‘Borrowed’ a picture from other people’s blog. he he.

I never pre-book an appointment, was very spontaneous. When I reached, they told me that they were closed for some model hair show.

Hmph, i blinked my eyes and they let me in. So kind! Basically the saloon is occupied with muscular MALE  models and me. *drool*

I told the stylist, I want to chop off some hair, I want volume and some fringe.

So this is what I’ve became:

IMG 028R2

Not a very big change but exactly what I wanted.

The experience was good, nice interior, friendly stylist.

But one thing not very good is …. the height of the chair cannot be adjusted and so the stylist asked me to stand up so that she can trim my very long hair.

Just feels weird to stand up while my hair being cut. But anyway, I think I’ll go back there again.

Ohw, fun fact: saw Marina Mahathir in the saloon too.

After the hair cut, I took some pictures of the Christmas decor of Pavilion.

IMG 033R copy

Very classy!

IMG 060_R

Rain-deers on top!

IMG 052R1

Love it!

Woohoo! Chrismtas is around the corner! My favourite season of the year…

Festive

Posted on November 18th, 2009 @ 10:58 am

Dear diary,

Sometimes I just like to use my blog to record what I do, even if it’s something not very news-worthy like cooking.

Lately been experimenting with spices & recipes that i like…it’s actually quite fun!

My concept is, cook something QUICK, simple and something that I like to eat.

Especially when you’ve an urban lifestyle to keep up with, being real tired after work, to minimize cooking time is quite important!

Somehow, eating out is convenient, but long term, it’s just costly or unhealthy.

Okays so minus off all those that didn’t turn out good….

IMG 016_R

This one tastes quite good! I shall call it… The Carol Spicy Tenggiri with Spring Onions

IMG 012_R

That day I bought a pan from IKEA, RM12.50 only.

And it’s quite useful to make dishes like, Butter Pan Fried Veg. Yum! Something different.

Nothing fancy! Just experimenting.

Shall read up on Jamie Oliver’s, my idol !
