Lost in Translation. I found this movie on IMDb “If you enjoyed this title, our database also recommends:” (brilliant function!) when I was reading up on Ramen Girl. Both featured the backdrop of Tokyo cityscape, which I’m bias-ly in love with. That aside, LIT delineated a novel friendship that the two main chars had. The pace was a a bit tardy though. But it ended beautifully with a whisper from bill to scarlet. what is he whispering? I’m very curious.
Just found out that Lost in Translation garnered 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. *applaude*
Hmm, on a side note, found out that similar movies to LIT would be The Graduate, Thank you for Smoking etc – movies that are screened during my uni film class and I would always fall asleep. Doesn’t means they’re bad. They should be appreciated because of their fortitude to challenge the secluded genre; very experimental, very original. i miss film classes.
When I was a kid, I used to take the Jalan Ampang route to school. This wooden steakhouse called Roadhouse Grill would come into my sight everyday.
I heard about it a lot, over the years, that they serve groundnuts in a sack as appetizers.
Only until recent, I stepped into this wooden house, for a casual Saturday day night dinner with my parents.
Its name is now Marciano. I still prefer it being called Roadhouse Grill.
They still serve groundnuts, but in a metal bucket instead of a sack.
Me and my safe choice – Ribeye Steak, medium, mushroom gravy. In fact I would prefer steak without gravy. Told them to serve gravy separately but they forgot.
and I like to have chilled beer whenever there’s steak. They complement each other perfectly. Though sometimes I might go for freshly squeezed mango juice.
Steak not as good as Jake’s but the environment was really cozy and nicely-decorated – gives you the seemingly real experience of dining in a cowboy town.
Sometimes it’s good to steer away from mainstream and take a look at the non-widespread roles of this universe. Someone like Jordan Rudess; a keyboardist, composer, performer, he has got the gift.
Been indulging in his music for the whole Friday night, particularly ♥ the album called Notes on a Dream.
Only if you heart piano music:
Now I’m all ready for a zesty weekend, have got a long list to tick.
“People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.”
They first opened in Cap Square, it was so near to my ex-workplace. I’ve always wanted to try it out but never did. And now they’ve moved to Solaris 2.
Finally on the night I turned 22, dinner was there.
Opted for the Spicy Shrimp Puttanesca. It was a swift decision probably cause of the word “spicy” and or the word “shrimp”. I ♥ anything seafood.
The taste wasn’t memorable because 3 weeks later now I don’t quite remember how it tastes like. But I guess it was okay.
Dressed casual that night – in fact that was what I wore to work that day.
Ordered ice water, ♥ how they served it in this glass bottle.
After the meal, I had this sudden urge for a sweet treat. Flipped through the menu and ordered a Haagen Dazs Vanilla milkshake. Totally no regrets.
I’ve been pretty loyal to my iPhone for over one year now, not the casing though. The thing about iphone is, you can always have something new to keep in your phone, because there’re so many apps.
Free apps.
Sometimes I really think what makes iPhone great – it’s the developers. I shall show you one of my favourite apps each week. or even more. I have so many favourites.
Charadium is a game where you draw and others guess; or you guess while other draws. Basically you’ll be playing live with other iphone users.
It’s so fun and addictive.
This fella is trying to draw something … do you know what is it?
The answer is “Landscape”. The fastest person to guess the word right gets the points.
Any iPhone users out there with this app? Let’s start a game!
I ran a search of the word “friends” on urban dictionary. Here’s what it gave me:
people who are aware of how retarded you are and still manage to be seen in public with you. people who make you laugh till you pee your pants.
Kind of.
The weekend after my birthday, my friends brought me to this fine Thai diner called “My Elephant“.
We ordered dishes to go with rice. Feels so grown-up to be sharing dishes like this.
Their Signature Green Curry Chicken – extremely yummy!
Tom Yum Soup – slightly different from the conventional tom yum soup. This has more flavours in it, taste a bit sweet though.
Soy Sauce Squid – this tasted quite unique!
My lovely friends arranged a surprise birthday cake for me ♥ , which however failed because the waiter just walked out and asked me do I want the cake now. Noob.
Nevertheless, I’m still touched by this sweet arrangement. I did not expect a cake, so it’s still a surprise and I love surprises.
♥ Are the shots nice? All shots taken using Canon EOS 500D.
“My Elephant” closes on 10:30pm. We still need a venue to continue tattling, hence we headed to Brussels Beer Cafe.
I had my Blackthorn Cider … and a few sips of Hoegarden Light.
Around midnight we said goodbye and I walked home with a gift, from Jia Hui. It was a huge gift and she had to wrap it up in two boxes.
It is a lamp from IKEA. How thoughtful!
Gracias for filling my Saturday night with gleesome memories, I look forward to seeing you guys again. ♥
